When I Stopped Feeling Like Praying
This is what I did
Dear Evangel Carrier,
There was a time I didn’t feel like praying. Not just for a day or a week, but for months. I showed up in church, even led little prayer meetings sometimes, but privately my words felt empty. I kept thinking, “What’s the point if I don’t feel anything?”
Then one day, I read something that changed everything. It said, “Faithfulness is not about feeling. It’s about showing up.” That hit me deeply. I realized I had made prayer about emotions instead of obedience. That night, I whispered to God, “I don’t have many words, but I’m here.” And to my surprise, His peace met me there. Quiet. Gentle. Healing.
This month we’re talking about faithfulness in word and prayer. Not perfection. Not performance. Just consistency. Just showing up. Just letting the Word shape us and letting prayer carry our weary hearts to God.
If you’re in that place where you feel like skipping prayer, I want you to know you’re not alone. God is not disappointed in your weakness. He draws near to it. He honors your attempt to seek Him, even when the fire feels low.
Maybe today your prayer is just, “Help me, Lord.” That’s still prayer. And He still hears.
Keep pressing in. Keep opening the Word even when it reads dry. The rain will come.
